Creation of a medicinal plants centre in Haiti

The centre opened its doors in Hinche, the main town on the Central Plateau, 115 km from Port-au-Prince. Fourteen species of plants are cultivated there over a surface of 100 hectares. This allows for six drugs to be produced that help to treat 80% of the most frequent health problems encountered there, i.e. gastritis, mycoses, coughs, malaria, vaginal infections and diabetes. These products are sold to inhabitants at the very lowest prices—a few cents—in order to finance the operation of the laboratory, but above all to ensure that the drugs are accessible for everybody in Haiti.
